What is this Pregnancy termination medication ?

MIFEPRISTONE (mi FE pri stone) is used to end an early pregnancy. It works by decreasing levels of the hormone progesterone in the body, which stops the pregnancy from progressing.

Important Information Before Taking Abortion Medication

Before using this medication, inform your healthcare provider if you have any of the following conditions:

A bleeding disorder

Difficulty accessing emergency medical care within 14 days of taking the medication

Inability to return for a follow-up within 1–2 weeks

Suspected or confirmed ectopic (tubal) pregnancy

An intrauterine device (IUD) currently in place

It’s been more than 70 days (10 weeks) since your last menstrual period

Adrenal gland problems

A history of porphyria

Are taking blood thinners or anticoagulants

Are on steroid medications (e.g., prednisone, dexamethasone)

Allergic to mifepristone, misoprostol, or any other ingredients

Currently breastfeeding

How to Use This Medication

This medication is taken by mouth and must be used exactly as prescribed by your doctor. It is usually taken in combination with other medications for safe and effective results. A Medication Guide (MedGuide) will be provided—read it thoroughly before use.

What to Watch For After Taking This Medication

Follow up with your healthcare provider as advised.

Vaginal bleeding is normal. Seek emergency care if you soak 2 or more full-sized pads per hour for 2 hours.

If the medication fails, surgery may be required.

This medication may cause birth defects if the pregnancy continues.

Possible Side Effects

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

Allergic reaction (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)

Heavy bleeding

High fever

Severe or prolonged abdominal pain, nausea, or fatigue

Common side effects include:

Cramping

Headache

Dizziness

Chills
